K’veer Update
First of all, thanks once again to everybody who’s donated so far. We’ve gotten donations ranging from $1, all the way up to over $100 from a few awesome contributors. Remember, every little bit helps, and every little bit will get your name in the credits!
Unfortunately, we’ve had a bit of a nasty realization about the nature of Unity Pro licensing, and it turns out that we’re going to need about $500 more than we originally thought, bringing our funding goal up to $2000. Still, we’re already more than halfway there, so keep those donations flowing!
It’s not all bad news, though! Primary modeling and texturing for the Mysterium presentation is now nearly complete. The engine is progressing nicely, and we’ve found a couple of great shader artists. The project advances every day, and as a bit of proof, here’s a video of the updated (entirely remodeled) K’veer, completed just last week:

Looks really good! I just recently found out about this project. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it sooner.
June 10th, 2011 at 1:35 am
Looking great I can’t wait to see this in person!
June 10th, 2011 at 11:24 pm
Can’t wait to see what will come about in Mysterium. Pity I’m nowhere near the venue (Australia!) so I hope they’ll be heaps of footage posted here when it happens.
June 16th, 2011 at 2:56 pm
Will we see the “wizard of oz” effect from riven in the final version?
June 16th, 2011 at 8:42 pm
Haha, if you mean the transition from sepia-tone to full-color, then yes, I’d like to think that our game will look that much better than the original.
June 17th, 2011 at 12:17 am
I believe Alex meant the Wizard of Oz effect mentioned at http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/riven/473/begin.html.
June 17th, 2011 at 12:57 am
Yes, that. I think it would be kind of funny if it started out with around realmyst quality 3D and then changed to what we’re seeing here.
June 17th, 2011 at 8:38 pm
I’ve done my best to match exactly the k’veer seen in the original images in Myst (not realmyst). Obviously, I’ve also done my best to update the quality, because those images were rendered in 1993. Riven used renders from Myst because they wanted the transition to be as seamless as possible. I’m trying to make the transition from Myst, not realmyst.
June 18th, 2011 at 4:52 pm
Ok, that makes sense.
June 18th, 2011 at 8:43 pm
I was talking about something else. Never mind.
June 17th, 2011 at 12:58 am
Not that realmyst is bad 3D…
June 21st, 2011 at 11:11 pm
Love the work you guys put into it. The floor tiles look way better than the original. Are you all going to record the Mysterium presentation for us to see?
June 23rd, 2011 at 6:17 pm
Don’t worry, there’ll be a recording of the presentation. It will probably even be live-streamed on the official Mysterium UStream channel. For the best quality, though, you should be there in person!
June 24th, 2011 at 5:21 pm
I will be unable to attend but I’m looking forward to watching live! Thanks.
June 24th, 2011 at 8:42 pm
Are you the trekluver from the myst movie comments?
June 27th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
Yes I am. Glad to see you over here too. š
June 29th, 2011 at 12:46 am
I’d thought about bringing this project up over there, but I wasn’t how many people knew about it. So um… yeah.
June 29th, 2011 at 3:13 am
I think they know about it. Most of the so called “hardcore” Myst fans know about it.
July 1st, 2011 at 1:33 am
Interestingly enough, I didn’t find out about this project from mysterium (I assume that’s how most people know about it). Instead, I found it on the myst lore wiki, as it was under “recent edits”.
June 30th, 2011 at 7:32 am
i know this is kindah weird but wasn’t the k’veer in riven a tad darker? i remember the only prominent light source being atruses lamp.
June 30th, 2011 at 10:32 am
I just recently discovered your project. I’m really enjoying the work you’ve done so far. š
I have a question: Will there be real-time day/night transitions like in realMYST?
June 30th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
Come to Mysterium! š
July 1st, 2011 at 1:43 am
I think there should be, but much MUCH slower than in realMYST. Because in realMYST it sort of ruins the sense of immersion. i.e. how could night possibly last only five minutes??? It should be more like eder gira, in my opinion.
July 1st, 2011 at 1:44 am
Whatever you think is best though… I’m just really excited about this thing!!!
July 3rd, 2011 at 6:24 am
If all goes as planned, the speed (and enablement) of the weather will be customizable.
July 1st, 2011 at 8:48 pm
Me thinks this is a spoiler. š Now I’m defiantly watching the presentation live!
July 2nd, 2011 at 2:03 am
It’s been nearly a month. We need an update. How about some wallpapers of the game itself?
July 2nd, 2011 at 10:24 pm
We’re keeping a lot of recent work under wraps for a big unveiling at Mysterium. Stay tuned till August.
July 3rd, 2011 at 2:01 pm
I will probably be unable to attend mysterium this year. And our internet is too slow to do the live streaming thing. But do you know if there’s any way to get a live blog with pictures or something?
July 3rd, 2011 at 2:05 pm
@cho102997
Wow! Does that mean we’ll be able to see rain/fog on riven? Or snow, to go with the temple easter egg?
July 4th, 2011 at 6:18 pm
I for one hope we can go outside that door now on the 233rd Age. I always wanted to see what was out there.
July 5th, 2011 at 1:42 am
I couldn’t agree more. Aside from creative license, I’ve never really understood HOW gehn gets that damn door open!
July 5th, 2011 at 11:35 pm
With Cyan approval, I don’t think it’s outside the teams limit. Plus I always figured he dropped the key on the floor and that Cyan didn’t want us to look down to see it. Besides, on Riven’s first release it probably would have taken another disc to fit it on. š
July 6th, 2011 at 8:15 am
I’m using Unity free right now, thinking about getting Unity Pro eventually, what exactly caused the goal to increase though? I’m just wondering since I’m looking to purchase it. If you need to keep it in confidence or don’t want to explain it here please feel free to email me at mystical.digital@gmail.com.
July 8th, 2011 at 3:54 pm
We were under the assumption that a Pro license applied to the project, not the person. We need multiple Pro licenses for multiple users, so a higher funding goal.
July 8th, 2011 at 10:09 pm
Speaking of which, it’s a little odd that the donations ground to a halt (sorry, someone had to say it). I assume that means that everyone who knows about this project has donated so there are no more people. But you probably have high hopes for mysterium, in terms of funding (i.e. more people find out about it, more people donate).
July 8th, 2011 at 11:21 pm
damn, it’s per-person? *sigh* now if only I could model worth a damn š
July 8th, 2011 at 10:11 pm
37th comment!
July 8th, 2011 at 10:11 pm
I suppose I should explain the above comment.
But for the sake of a good mystery, I won’t.
July 8th, 2011 at 11:19 pm
I assume you are referencing the 37th age… a truly tragic part of BoA imho
July 9th, 2011 at 10:25 pm
Actually, no. However, you can read a bit of background at the following url:

What is your favorite version of kveer? Myst masterpiece, realmyst for ipad, riven dvd rom, uru path of the shell, or end of ages?
