Texturing Update
No new assets to show off this week, but we do have a couple of updates to show you guys. Specifically, a few of our older models are now sporting some beautiful textures!
First up, the submarine exterior has been kitted out with a beautiful battered copper material. We’re still working on perfecting the details, but it is already up and running in Unreal 4. Unreal’s new physically-based material engine is absolutely perfect for surfaces like this, and we’re taking full advantage of it.
Secondly, the awesome wahrk skulls that we posted last time are now made of bone, instead of the shiny gray default material. We think they look much better like this.
As we get closer to Mysterium, we’ll be working hard on fine-tuning our demo. Expect more updates like this in the next few weeks!

Oh man, the attention to detail here with modeling and textures!! is really getting me pumped, and reminding me of (one o the reasons) why I loved Riven so much in the first place š That sub… with the different shaped tiny scrapes around all the rivets… and the scrapes along the direction the wheels would travel… I can easily imagine that sub was out in the elements for real. Keep up the good work!!!

This is very beautiful, thank you.

I’m so excited especially since you’ve switched to UT4 engine. The bump mapping on the bone is extra nice.

So Lovely. unreal4 ftw. Can’t wait til someone mods rift support into this baby.
Are you allowed to raise funds via kickstarter?

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/Yali/Myst-Uru/rivenwharktower1600.bmp Just wanted to show you the original reference for the wahrk skull. Note the discoloration on the lower tusk shaft (due to flesh most probably)
One of my favorite textures in Riven. I hope you can incorporate that staining in the new texture.

Wow, that render is mighty impressive.
Imagine if Cyan re-rendered all the scenes today – they would make good reference points for the 3D modders of Starry Expanse.

Great work, can’t wait to play it.
Do you have to make the textures from scratch?
Perhaps I’m nitpicking here, but it would be great to see weld blobs where the ladder rungs are attached on the submarine. For me those little “screws, rust and scratches” really makes Riven so alive… Also the sound, art, story and everything else… š

Hi guys š
Ah a demo – also for us ??

Based on the same e-mail conversation I mentioned below, the devs did seem to be open to the idea when I suggested it. *conspiratorial grin* I had mentioned how the public demo really helped whet my appetite for the final product, noting that I probably was not alone in that regard.

Will the demo be on the Prison Island again, or somewhere entirely new?
June 30th, 2014 at 3:35 am
According to an e-mail conversation with the devs, the demo will most likely be for Jungle Island itself (which all these screenshots relate to), since that is the biggest island and therefore a perfect demonstration of the performance boost UE4 offers.

Yeah, I think the team is taking on the hardest mother-of-all islands first so they learn the ropes of UT4 engine and grasp the scope of the project.

How is this beeing Modelled?
Do You just Look at the original Riven Images and try to Model it so it Looks the Same?
Greetings
